The House with a Clock in Its Walls

Originally attached to the project to just add life to the practical chair that was shot, Mavericks VFX asked the CG team to recreate a shot with an entirely digital chair. I was tasked to animate this shot, with the instruction from Brendan Taylor, owner of Mavericks, to make the chair "dog-like in its actions and appeal". With some excellent modeling work, texturing and comp from the artists I worked with, and my animation, the director and production was so impressed that they asked to replace ALL of the chair shots with our digital one. It was a challenge to get all of the work done in such a short time, I was also given almost free reign to add whatever comedic flourishes I could think of. The most successful of these was the "The End" shot, where I took a cue from Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus from the Pink Panther films, using his trademark nervous tic. Director Eli Roth, when seeing the shot for the first time, said "it was the funniest thing he's ever seen in film."
